Haaland and Reus rescue Dortmund - RB Leipzig dominate Augsburg
Erling Haaland and Marco Reus combined to rescue Borussia Dortmund in a difficult game in Hoffenheim on matchday 4 of the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows would beat Hoffenheim 1-0 in front of 6,000 spectators at the PreZero Arena.
Borussia Dortmund started the game without Reus and Haaland but with young stars Jadon Sancho and Giovanni Reyna. The Englishman and the American, however, struggled to produce creative moments without a proper outlet upfront. That slot was occupied by Julian Brandt, the former Bayer Leverkusen star, however, seemingly was uncomfortable in the role.
Hoffenheim, in the meantime, were without star striker Andrej Kramarić, who is in isolation after a suspected positive COVID-19 test. The Kraichgauer seemed happy to sit deep, absorb the pressure, and occasionally hit Dortmund on counter-attacks. As a result, it was a stale game with little chances on both sides.
Finally, in the second half BVB coach Lucien Favre had enough. In the 64th minute, Haaland came on for Brandt and Reus for Sancho and 12 minutes later the duo would decide the game. Haaland broke into the box, spotted Reus, who had to simply tap in the winner. Overall, it was a deserved yet unspectacular win for the Black and Yellows.
Tyler Adams starts for Leipzig - Red Bulls are now first in Bundesliga
Over at FC Augsburg, US men's national team player Tyler Adams was given the start in RB Leipzig's 2-0 victory over Augsburg. The result means die Roten Bullen will in all likelihood finish matchday 4 as the Bundesliga leaders.
Leipzig were the more dominant side in what was deemed the Spitzenspiel of the matchday. In the 45th minute, Angeliño, once again with a header, gave Leipzig the lead. Then in the 66th minute, the game was decided. This time Yussuf Poulson was the scorer, deciding the game with a wonderful volley.
