Jesse Marsch back to RB Leipzig? - "Would be a great idea for me"

Red Bull Salzburg head coach Jesse Marsch is open to returning to his current club's sister team RB Leipzig. From July 2018 to June 2019, Marsch, the 47-year-old American, was an assistant coach under Ralf Rangnick at the Bundesliga club. The American confirmed his ambitions to return to Leipzig in the Sky documentary Meine Geschichte, which will be broadcasted on Sunday. 

"Julian Nagelsmann is doing a great job, and Leipzig have no reason to look for a new coach," Marsch said. "But if there is ever a possibility to return to Leipzig, then that would be a great idea for me." Marsch left Leipzig for Salzburg in July 2019 and has since averaged 2.14 points per game in the 84 games he has been in charge of at the Austrian Bundesliga club. 

RB Salzburg: Marsch without an exit clause - Bayer Leverkusen interested 

Marsch's contract in Salzburg, where he will lead his club to the eighth title in a row, will run until the summer of 2022. The 47-year-old confirmed last week that he has no exit clause. But unlike a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen, where the Salzburg coach is also a potential candidate to replace Hannes Wolf, negotiations with RB Leipzig should be relatively simple. 

"Of course, I understand the club," Marsch said, who was in charge of MLS club New York Red Bulls from 2015 to 2018 when asked about Leipzig. "If you asked me which club fits me the best, then, of course, it is Leipzig. They have top ideas there." Eighteen players have walked the path from Salzburg to Leipzig, Marsch would become the first coach.
