Following Upamecano: Bayern also sign Richards - Reading left-back to arrive on free transfer
In addition to the now confirmed €42.5 million transfer of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, Bayern Munich have apparently secured the services of a further defender. As reported by Kicker, English left-back Omar Richards will join the Bundesliga leaders on a free transfer from Reading in the summer. At the Championship side, the contract of the 23-year-old expires at the end of the season. A confirmation from the clubs is pending, but Transfermarkt can confirm the available information.
The Telegraph had initially reported about negotiations between Richards and Bayern in early January. According to this, the German record titleholders had scouted the offensively strong full-back, who is supposed to act as a backup for Alphonso Davies, for some time.
The London native has made 27 appearances so far this season. Richards made his debut for the club in 2017 at the age of 19. Since then, he has featured in 89 matches across all competitions for the first team (three goals). He was upgraded by €500,000 to €2 million in the most recent Championship market value update.
